Aim

We started webinars between doctors in The Netherlands and Afghanistan concerning COVID-19. The aim was to share knowledge, experience and current insight on diagnosing and treating patients with COVID-19.

The first goal was to gather information about the measures taken concerning COVID-19 in Afghanistan. We asked the doctors of several hospitals in Herat, Farah, and Kabul on how we could contribute to the efforts of the healthcare staff. It is heartwarming to hear that these brave doctors are doing their best with the limited resources they have to treat every patient. We found out that there is a need for a commonly-used protocol for handling COVID-19 patients which can be applied with the available resources in Afghanistan. In addition, web lectures presented by experienced doctors from the Netherlands can also be beneficial. After knowing this, we started several workgroups:

  1. Talented doctors working in different hospitals throughout the Netherlands are working on an adjusted protocol that can be implemented in Afghanistan. The protocol is based on the latest scientific facts available on COVID-19.
  2. We started with a series of web lectures, given by our team of specialists.
